The Game of School is something that is now and will forever be played. Millions of students all over the world are constantly finding loop holes in education systems, and personally I do not believe that it is something that can be stopped anytime soon. No one can stop certain kids from being lazy, uninvolved, or apathetic. This is mainly because our willingness to learn is based on our interest in a subject, and if we don’t have any interest toward something then the Game of School will indefinitely be played. The reason I feel this way is because I’ve been playing the “Game of School” ever since I was a child. It’s a sad truth, but it’s certainly true and I’m not going to deny it. I’ve always been an A/B student throughout my years of schooling, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t find ways to just get by in certain classes. As a student, I’ve been constantly geared towards the sciences based on my own interests, and it shows on my transcript that I have consistently shined in that department. Other classes would have worse grades because I wasn’t sincerely interested and would do just enough to get the B and keep on moving forward. The same goes for being a student at URI. I just do not consider my electives as being as important as my core classes. If I find them interesting, then I continue to be invested. If not, I go for the A but am satisfied with a B. Most of my time and dedication goes into my interests which means getting A’s in core classes, and that’s something I don’t need to contradict. However, the Game of School did play a positive role in my life! It helped me realize what subjects I was truly interested in which inevitably led me to being a nursing major. In a way, I believe the GOS gears students toward their own interests, even if some have to be lazy and uncooperative to figure it out.
